National Defence

The National Defence is broken up into three parts:

  • National Military

  • National Military Reserve

  • National Police

National Military Reserve

Every citizen of Bohemia over 25 years of age who is not officially part of the National Military is a member of the National Military Reserve force. Members of the National Military Reserve are not, however, considered soldiers as they are still considered civilians. Whilst there are certain minimum health requirements that need to be satisfied, any citizen who has completed Mandatory Military Service could in theory be randomly drafted into active service during such states of emergency. Even when called up during a crises, the draftees are still considered to be civilians.

General notes

Citizens

Only Only Bohemian Citizens can join the National Military, National Military Reserve or National Police or participate in mandatory military service.

Supplies and Inventory

Ships, weapons, clothing and all other necessary gear are provided to soldiers when they join the National Military. Soldiers are paid a Dynamic National Salary just like any other occupational role. Meals and lodging are provided free for soldiers just as they are for every citizen on the planet who wishes to use the freely available national food and housing services. Alternatively, soldiers can purchase their own meals from specialty retail food vendors in the local markets or have specialty meals delivered via drone. Each soldier has an annual quota for ammunition and gear replacements. Any upgrades or requisitions beyond the standard quota need to be aid for out of pocket. Ships remain the property of the army, however, soldiers (or a group of soldiers) can buy a ship outright if they have the funds or alternatively a soldier (or a group of soldiers) could arrange a payment plan in which they pay off the ship over time. In the case of a collectively owned ship, no single individual owns the rights to the ship and they would all need to sign a transfer or sale transaction in the event of change of ownership. In the event of a sale the proceeds would be split between the relevant parties depending on their relevant stake in the ownership of the ship.

Mandatory Military Service

It is mandatory for all citizens to undertake 2 years of military service which is composed of 8 months of basic military training and 24 months of active service (albeit in normally safe zones and participating in non-combative missions) with ongoing on-the-field training throughout the final 24 months. It must be completed in one uninterrupted period of 2 years. They can choose when they wish to complete this mandatory service, however, it must be commenced at some point after they have turned 18 and prior to them turning 25. There is only one intake per year and this is in the first month of every year.

Training is conducted via the National University and all recruits learn the basics of ship flying, ship maintenance, ranged personal combat, close quarter personal combat, aerial personal combat, aerial ship combat, survival and are introduced to the various military specialisations available should they choose to continue on after the mandatory period of training. In very rare circumstances a Citizen may be excused from mandatory military training, however, these are assessed on a case by case basis and are normally due to a genuine medical condition. In even rarer circumstances a Citizen may refuse to complete this mandatory military service due to philosophical or moral considerations. If a Citizen refuses to complete this mandatory military service for these reasons then there will be significant consequences. These include:

  • the individual will never be permitted to apply to join the National Military at any future point in time

  • the individual’s Minimum Working Hours will be doubled for the next 10 years

  • the individual will be required to complete unpaid community service of 32 hours per month for the next 10 years
